Compoatlas

For brands: how your products are read and checked

Compoatlas does not rate products and sells no placement. A page says what a product's ingredient list contains under the official texts, with the date of that list and its source. A brand has nothing to pay to be shown accurately on Compoatlas: its list only needs to be public, readable and dated.

Where a product's composition comes from

For a product's official page to be read and published

  1. The site is the brand's: listed in our register after review, or declared as the brand's official website in Wikidata, on an item that has an article in a Wikipedia.
  2. The page gives the product's barcode (GTIN), preferably in its structured data (schema.org Product, gtin13 property), and the full ingredient list as text, not only as an image.
  3. The robots.txt file allows our crawler (agent “Compoatlas/0.1”). An anti-bot check that blocks all automated reading prevents it: we never get around it. Visitors can then only paste the list themselves.

What is checked for each ingredient

Each name is matched to the EU glossary of ingredient names, with a level of certainty; a guessed typo is flagged as such. Then come the annexes of the Cosmetics Regulation, CLPEU regulation that classifies chemicals by their hazards (EC No 1272/2008). classifications, ECHAEuropean Chemicals Agency.'s list of endocrine disruptors, the REACH rules that cover cosmetics, health agency opinions and the rules of other countries. Each finding links to its official text and date. Details are in our method.

Food supplements

A supplement page follows its declaration in Compl'Alim, the DGAL online service where supplements sold in France are declared: name, brand, form, composition and declared amounts. To correct it, update the declaration in Compl'Alim: the page follows at the next data update. Each vitamin or mineral is compared with the French maximum dose and EFSAEuropean Food Safety Authority.'s safety limit, each form with the EU list (Directive 2002/46/EC), each plant with the French 2014 list, EU rules and agency opinions. The person responsible for placing the product on the market can ask for their name not to be shown.

An error, a formula that changed

Write to contact@compoatlas.com with the product's barcode and the link to its official page. We correct the data at its source, date the correction in the corrections log and keep the old version in the history: nothing is erased silently.
