Traditionally used as a tonic to increase the appetite and improve digestion, as an orexigenic, to increase appetite, to stimulate the intestine, to relieve respiratory irritation, as a mucilage in catarrh of the upper respiratory passages, as an expectorant, as a mucilaginous demulcent, as an antipyretic, to reduce fevers, to treat chronic affections of the stomach, to treat chronic affections of the bowels, as a laxative as a lactagogic, as an antipellagral, for its antiphlogistic action, to treat dyspepsia and to treat gastritis. Traditionally used in Herbal Medicine as a galactogogue / lactogogue to help promote milk production/secretion.
