Warnings in Canada
- Précautions et mises en garde
To be used only on the advice of a physician. For external use only. Avoid contact with eyes, mucous membranes and broken or irritated skin. In case of contact, rinse thoroughly with water. Test for sensitivity. Apply only to small skin surface area. Discontinue use and consult a physician in case of skin reactions or a blue-black darkening of the skin. Use only as directed. Do not apply over sunburn or irritated skin. Keep out of reach of children. Avoid direct sun exposure. In case of accidental ingestion, seek medical assistance or contact a Poison Control Center immediately. Store at room temperature. To test for sensitivity, before treatment, apply to an area of approximately 1 cm2 of unbroken skin on the inside of the arm. If no irritation occurs within 24 hours, begin treatment for up to 12 weeks. The safety of topical hydroquinone use during pregnancy or children 12 years old or less has not been established. Hydroquinone is a skin bleaching agent which may produce unwanted cosmetic effects if not used as directed. The physician should be familiar with the contents of this insert before prescribing or dispensing this product. Close patient supervision is recommended. Sunscreen use is an essential aspect of hydroquinone therapy because even minimal sunlight exposure may cause skin re-darkening. Treatment should be limited to relatively small areas of the body at one time. Note: Slight darkening of the product is normal when exposed to air and does not affect its potency. When this happens, extract a tiny amount of product, clean with a cotton swab and discard prior to use. If the entire contents become brown, discontinue use and consult a physician. This product contains glycolic acid and citric acid, which are alpha-hydroxy acids (AHAs) which may increase skin's sensitivity to the sun and particularly the possibility of sunburn. It is recommended that prior to exposure to the sun, users cover areas where AHAs have been applied with sunscreen. Contact of the product with the skin must be limited frequency or duration. Contains sodium metabisulfite, a sulfite which may cause serious allergic type reactions (e.g. hives, itching, wheezing, anaphylaxis, severe asthma attacks) in certain persons.
- Effets indésirables connus
A mild transient stinging or minor redness may occur in people with sensitive skin. Discontinue use in case of irritation, rash, excessive inflammatory response or if gradual blue-black darkening of the skin (exogenous ochronosis) occurs. Minor redness is acceptable, but where there is an excessive irritation, a rash or other reaction, further treatment is not advised. Severe itching or reddening may occur, in which case the product should be discontinued and the physician notified immediately. A bitter taste and anesthetic effect may occur if applied to lips.
- Contre-indications
Do not use this product if you are nursing, pregnant or if you intend to become pregnant within 3 months of use. Not for use on children. Do not use this product if you have used it or any of its ingredients before and skin sensitivity or irritation has occurred. If you have a family history or, have or have had or at risk of developing cancer, do not use.
