本品にはアスタキサンチンが含まれます。 アスタキサンチンは記憶力に衰えを感じている健常な中高年の認知機能の一部である視覚的な記憶力(図形を認識し、記憶してから思い出す力)、つまり物を置いた場所や人の顔を覚える力、出かけた場所を覚えている力、地図や見た絵に描かれている人や物を覚える力の維持に役立つ機能があることが報告されています。アスタキサンチンには眼のピント調節を維持し、パソコンやスマートフォンの使用による一時的な眼の疲労感を緩和する機能、眼の使用による肩や腰の負担を軽減する機能があることが報告されています。また、アスタキサンチンには、パソコンやスマートフォンの使用における中高年の方の視力の維持をサポートする機能があることが報告されています。なお、近視や遠視などの屈折異常を改善するものではありません。
