En raison de ses effets sur le taux de sucre dans le sang, l'acide lipoïque n'est pas recommandé aux personnes diabétiques, aux femmes enceintes et allaitantes. L'acide alpha-lipoïque peut déclencher une hypoglycémie accompagnée de symptômes de transpiration, de faiblesse et de fatigue.
