For comfortable relief of occasional constipation. For comfortable and overnight relief of occasional constipation. Stimulant laxative. Short-term relief of occasional constipation. Lax-A Senna relieves constipation by increasing the rate of colonic motility, enhancing colonic transit, and inhibiting water and electrolyte secretion. Promotes bowel movement by direct action on the large intestine. Lax-A Senna provides laxative effects by its twofold action: (1) it acts on the motility of the large intestine by stimulating peristaltic contractions and inhibiting local contractions, which results in an accelerated colonic transit and thus in a reduction of fluid absorption, and (2) it influences fluid and electrolyte absorption and secretion by the colon by stimulating mucus and chloride secretion, which increase fluid secretion.
A use authorised in Canada is not an authorised health claim in the European Union. See the health claims register.
